How to Dress Like a Victoria’s Secret Angel (Without the Wings)

Written by Willa Frillici

On the third Sunday of October, Angels took to the stage in what marked the 31st Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, debuting 89 new show-stopping looks. Across various themes, colors, and textures, a few looks stood out to me as outfit-worthy inspiration. Of course, what is worn on the runway isn't your typical day-to-day attire; however, some of the pieces left me looking for ways to make these wearable for anyone.

Near the front of the show, multiple models walked out in pieces emulating a classic “cami” or slip dress. The simple silhouettes and 90s-inspired articles reminded me f of a flowy satin, lace tank. This is made even better when paired with jeans and unique ballet flats. Or, throw on a skirt to dress up if you’re going for a formal look.

Interpretation and adaptation:

Victoria's Secret is known for its elaborate wings and dramatic twists. A couple of the floral designs particularly caught my eye. Multiple looks featured large floral accessories, or honed in on silhouettes. While walking from lecture to lecture in draped floral wings might be a bit over the top, I can absolutely take inspiration from the use of a few of these patterns. I love the idea of dramatic bloom-like accessories to brighten up an outfit. Something as simple as a claw clip, barrette, or belt adds a springtime pop. Jewelry like necklaces, chunky bracelets, or a simple hoop brings some shimmer.  To top it all off, shoes are perfect for adding a light touch in the midst of dark winter days. It can be easy to fall into outfit repeats, especially as it gets colder,  but accessories like these can make a simple look eye-catching.

I also found myself drawn to the sequins and sparkles. I can always appreciate a sparkly shirt. This looks particularly stylish when a sheer top is paired with a cute bralette underneath. I was especially marveled at Gigi Hadid's pink and blue sequin wings. Since I couldn’t actually walk around in VS wings, I’ll settle for a sequin dress or blouse. Abby Champion's gold and black sheer lace long-sleeve look reminded me that dressing warm can still appear chic- inspiration I will be taking with me into Wisconsin winter.

For the final, and possibly the most important piece of any good outfit: accessories. There were colorful jewels everywhere on the runway this year. I will always go for a chunky stack of jewelry or a statement piece. I adored how the jewels were layered over pieces that were a statement on their own, such as a pink and yellow bra, or even a lace top. Even on top of an outfit that can speak for itself, jewels will always improve a look.

While it may not be typical or practical, the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show will always be a place for inspiration in your wardrobe. So, when you're on your next shopping trip, or looking for something to spice up getting ready, take a peek at the Angels in all their glory; they’re guaranteed to add some sparkle.
