Holiday Gift Guide: What to Gift Your Loved Ones for the Holiday Season

Written by Annie Mayer

The holiday season comes with many ways to showcase your love, through cooking, quality time, and of course through gift giving. For some people, gift giving is their love language, making shopping during the holiday seasons easy and fun. For others who need inspiration, you have come to the right place!

When buying gifts for your mom, the possibilities can be endless. It is so rewarding to give someone a gift who really deserves it, like moms who work hard. A self-care basket is the perfect idea to gift your mom during the holiday season. Treat her to a nice basket filled with her favorite face masks, eye patches, and hand lotions. Additionally, if you are feeling extra generous, you can even add in a set of your favorite pajamas, so your mom can relax in style during the holiday season.

Dads can be a little bit harder to shop for, yet there are still a lot of amazing options. If your dad is one who, thirty years later, is still rooting for his favorite college sports team, treat him to a new hat or sweatshirt to wear during games. Another great gift that your dad would be sure to love is a puzzle that he can sit down and focus on, alone or with the family. One last great gift for dads is giving them something sentimental that they can cherish. Go to your local pottery shop, and paint them something new that they can forever cherish, whether that's a new grill plate or even just a picture frame.

Shopping for siblings is always a good idea. These are the people that grow up with you, as well as grow old with you, so it's important to let them know how much you appreciate them during the holidays. When buying a gift for your sister don’t forget to stop by Sephora for a brand new scent or a restock on their favorite Summer Fridays lip balm. If you need even more ideas, stop into Aritzia to purchase a new everyday staple like a brand new sweatshirt or their new TNA Fleece. For your brother, look into buying him a new JBL speaker he can bring with him on the go. Another good gift for your brother would be a Yeti water bottle he can bring around with him, as hydration is often overlooked, yet still so important during the holidays.

Friends are there for you every day, through your highs and lows, and it is important to celebrate them. One way to celebrate those closest to you is through giving gifts, and notes! I always make sure to include hand-written notes in all of my gifts as a way to show appreciation to the people who support me everyday at school, at work and all the places in between.

When shopping for your friends, I love thinking about what college they go to, and making the gifts personal to them. If they go to a school in a colder climate, you can’t go wrong with gifting them a new scarf, fleece or cute furry hat! If they go to school somewhere warm, invest in a new pair of Raybans for them, or even a new personalized beach bag. If your friends are out of college, a gift for their favorite hobby or restaurant will bring a smile to their face.

Lastly, if you have a significant other, gift giving might be nerve-wracking this time of year. There is so much pressure to find the perfect gift. A great idea you can never go wrong with is a pair of Ugg slippers to keep them warm during this cold and frosty time of year. Another great gift is a framed picture of the two of you together that they can hang in their room as a sweet reminder of your relationship

If they don’t already have a wallet, a new wallet is a practical gift that will also remind them of you every time they reach for it. Lastly, you can always give them an experience that you can do together (for example, tickets to a concert or game, or a certificate for a new restaurant for date night). No matter what gift you give them, just remember they are with you for so many other reasons than your gift-giving skills, and it's important to take that pressure off of yourself and enjoy the holiday season.

The holiday season is important for many reasons, but one of the most important is spending time with those around you that you love. While presents may be a large part of the holiday season, they are not everything. If you need inspiration for gift giving, I hope the list of ideas above will help, but know that whatever you come up with will be more than enough. The best gift you can give during the holiday season is your presence and your love.
